WINTER 2013 CONNECTIONS keeneland / PhotoS By Z keeneland / Coady PhotograPhy K in photos The Place to Be keeneland Celebrity chef and Thoroughbred owner Bobby Flay, top, was at Keeneland during the fall meet and was the subject of a photo shoot for a story in the April 2014 issue of Food & Wine magazine. Above, comedians the Sklar Brothers enjoyed an afternoon of racing while they were in Lexington for a performance. The sixth annual Make-A-Wish Day during Keeneland's fall meet concluded with the type of moment that reminds people just how generous the human spirit can be. Moments after the day's fnal race a man walked up to Make-A-Wish Foundation representatives and donated a $26,000 winning Pick 4 ticket. Before leaving, the anonymous donor divulged only that he was from Marietta, Ga. Keeneland and local farms teamed with Make-A-Wish to grant nine children wishes and give them a VIP experience at the track, including presentation of trophies in the winner's circle where Cynthia Reitz and jockey Miguel Mena shared some fun. Steve Buttleman/ Bucky Sallee For more than 50 years George "Bucky" Sallee, left, was a Keeneland icon. Sallee recently retired to become Keeneland's bugler emeritus, passing the torch to Steve Buttleman, an accomplished musician in his own right. Buttleman proved to be a perfect ft for Keeneland's ambiance and family setting, making a point to get to know fans, particularly children, while enjoying his frst race meet as the track's bugler. keeneland / Coady PhotograPhy keeneland / PhotoS By Z Meet Leaders Ken and Sarah Ramsey continued their unprecedented run of success at Keeneland with another record-breaking race meet. The Ramseys' 17 victories broke the record for most wins by an owner during the fall meet. They have now won or shared the leading owner title at Keeneland 13 times. Additionally, jockey Rosie Napravnik won 17 races to earn her frst Keeneland riding title and become the frst female rider to win the title at the historic track. Trainer Michael Maker won his second consecutive Keeneland leading trainer title, and third overall, this fall with his 17 victories. KEENELAND WINTER 2013 21
